An Extract from Section 4 of The Complete Bird Care Compendium.

Handling Birds : Section 4

  • FEELING BIRDS (NECK, CROP, PECTORALS AND ABDOMEN

Birds have heaps of feelings but these notes are about you feeling birds!

My purpose here is to help you learn how to become familiar with aspects of the physical examinations of birds, be they healthy or sick.

The notes assume we are examining small caged and aviary birds.

Remember it is much easier and safer to examine a hand tame bird than one that that is not hand tame.

Remember if you have to restrain a bird that is trying to bite you, you must be careful how you hold the bird to avoid harming it, as well as to avoid being bitten.
