COMMON HEALTH PROBLEMS IN CAPTIVE COCKATIELS
Health problems which are common in pet caged cockatiels are not necessarily the same as those that are common in aviaries maintained for breeding and exhibition together
Here are the first 9 out the 35 common health problems noted in cockatiels from Ross's book section:
Roundworms (Ascaridiasis)
Chlamydiosis (Chlamydia psittaci associated disease of eyes, liver, intestines, respiratory system)
Coliform-associated enteritis and other disease
Candidiasis (yeast infections of mouth, throat, crop, intestines and sometimes other organs)
Heavy metal poisoning (lead, zinc and maybe, copper)
Excessive egg laying
Giardia-like protozoan infection of gut (associated with bulky pale wet faeces)
Megabacteria-Associated disease (MAD) affects proventriculus, ventriculus (gizzard) and intestines
Nutritional disease especially Ca:P, Vitamin D deficiency involving bones
